A Day at 3-1-5: Behind the Scenes with the Club Manager
As I walk through the doors of 3-1-5 Health Club each morning, I’m reminded of why we exist—not just as a gym, but as a thriving hub for health, wellness, and recovery. Every day presents new challenges, new opportunities, and fresh inspiration from both our team and our members. From early-morning personal training sessions to late-night recovery treatments, our club is a space where transformation happens, and I’m proud to be at the heart of it.
Setting the Tone for the Day
My role as Health Club Manager is a balancing act between strategic oversight and hands-on leadership. Mornings often begin with a team briefing, ensuring that every department—from front-of-house to fitness, swim school, and house-keeping—knows the key priorities for the day. Whether we’re rolling out a new marketing campaign, launching a membership drive, or finalising plans for upcoming events, communication and collaboration keep everything running smoothly.
The day quickly picks up pace as members begin to arrive. The early birds are here for their strength training, morning swim, or our boutique-style SWEAT and SHOX sessions. Others come for a gentler start—perhaps a Pilates class in our newly launched Sculpt Reformer studio, or a moment of mindfulness in the Recovery Hub, enjoying the benefits of HydroMassage and Cryotherapy. The diversity of our community is what makes 3-1-5 unique; we serve elite athletes, fitness newcomers, and those simply seeking a healthier lifestyle, all under one roof.

Staff development is a priority; whether it’s advanced coaching certifications, leadership training, or in-house CPD sessions, we ensure our trainers, coaches, and support staff stay at the forefront of the industry. I firmly believe that an empowered team creates an empowered community.
Championing Industry Standards & Health Integration
One of the most exciting aspects of my role is how 3-1-5 is now influencing the future of the health and fitness industry on a national level. As a member of two UK Active councils—the Standards and Legislation Committee and the Independent Operator Council—I am in the privileged position of shaping policy and advocating for the independent sector.
Our work within The Active Standard (TAS) is particularly important. 3-1-5 was chosen as one of the first independent clubs to apply for this certification, which aims to create industry-wide benchmarks for safety, professionalism, and best practices. As an independent facility, it’s critical that we hold ourselves to the same (if not higher) standards as large operators, ensuring our members always feel confident in the service they receive.
Beyond industry governance, our advocacy extends to healthcare integration. Recently, I was invited to attend the ICS Physical Activity Blueprint Design Event, where we explored how gyms can work alongside the NHS to support preventative healthcare. With government stakeholders, Public Health England, and policy leaders in attendance, it was an opportunity to push for greater recognition of the health club sector as an essential part of the nation’s healthcare ecosystem.

We are now, very delighted to share the news that 3-1-5 Health Club has been certified to The Active Standard.
The first independent club to achieve this industry wide certification and we couldn’t be more proud of our achievement!!

An Afternoon of Engagement & Innovation
By midday, my focus shifts to engagement—both with members and the broader business community. 3-1-5 has strong partnerships with Morecambe Football Club, corporate wellness schemes, and local schools, helping to make fitness more accessible for all ages and abilities. A key part of my role is to nurture these relationships, ensuring that our club is a pillar of the community rather than just another gym.
Member feedback is also invaluable. Whether it’s a casual chat in the lounge or an in-depth survey, we listen, adapt, and constantly refine our offering. The club is currently in an exciting growth phase, with major developments like Reset Recovery Studios and expanded ClubPlus memberships, and our members play a crucial role in shaping our direction.
Evening Energy & Looking Ahead
As the evening rush hits, the energy in the club is electric. Families arrive for Stingray Swim School, professionals unwind with evening workouts, and our recovery facilities remain busy with members prioritising self-care. Watching the club come alive at all hours is a constant reminder of why we do what we do.
The final hours of the day involve strategic planning—reviewing sales targets, monitoring retention trends, and preparing for upcoming campaigns. Our recent January campaigns drove significant membership growth, and as we head towards the next quarter, the focus remains on sustained community engagement and long-term growth.

As I lock up for the night and reflect on another dynamic day, one thing is certain: 3-1-5 isn’t just my workplace. It’s a place of transformation, resilience, and empowerment—for our team, our members, and the community we serve.
